When I was in college, I wanted to be a basketball coach…and in fact, I had the opportunity to do so at the college and AAU levels. I really enjoyed that experience, but professionally felt called down another path.
As that path—as a higher education leader, culminating in five years as a college president—ran its course, I began to engage in another type of coaching. No buzzer beaters, last minute plays, or yelling at officials now…just the rewarding work of engaging with leaders to get clear about what they want and get moving in that direction.
I’ve worked with executives in both higher education and the not-for-profit sector…some preparing for transitions, others wanting to be more effective, and still others navigating the process of moving into a new role. It has been my privilege to accompany them on their journey—and without exception, through work together they have found a way to get clear and get moving.
But don’t take my word for it. Here’s what some of my clients say:
“Thank you very much for the role you played in my journey and continue to play…I'm so very excited to be able to do this…on my own. It's empowering.”
“Scott is a talented and engaged leadership coach whose practice enabled me to think critically about, as well as implement, values-driven practices that enlivened our institutional mission. Our sessions provided me with a much-needed space to explore and leverage the inherent intersections that exist between the professional and personal. Finally, and most importantly, I was able to reflect on and refine how I think about my role and function every day as a leader within a human-scale organization where relationships matter.”
“Scott's thoughtful and encouraging approach to coaching has had a lasting impact on my leadership and day-to-day work habits. The questions he asked and the discussions he facilitated allowed me to think differently about a number of challenges and opportunities facing both me and my organization. In many instances, I was able to reframe my perspective and take on projects with new energy and focus…Scott's ability to actively listen and reflect back insightful questions created a supportive environment where I felt comfortable exploring new ideas and pushing beyond my comfort zone…I enthusiastically recommend Scott to anyone seeking a coach who combines expertise with genuine care for their clients' success.”
